Hello to you in January. Hope you enjoy my poem.
a song in the air
buds on trees have gone to sleep
to sprout in the springtime
waiting patiently
are you sleeping too?
have you awakened to the cool breezes
the wind on your face that makes
everything feel better like you were kissed
harnessed winds by turbines ready to
generate energy to keep us warm
do you plough through your chores and tasks
with a heaviness that drags you around or like
holding a broom, you sweep away the dust of
life that has settled lifting you up to a happier
day
our masks push others away
communicating quickly to get it done and
over with
behind the masks are the princes and
princesses that rule the world and love
their subjects
growing patience for the distemper of the
modern world does not come easily and
doesn’t grow on trees to be plucked
changing our view
screening our souls
lifting our hearts
to the diastolic rhythm that makes the life
in us flow turning us into more patient
creatures.
“All things are difficult before they are easy” Thomas Fuller quote.
Thomas Fuller was an enslaved man who earned renown at the end of his life for his ability to calculate numbers in his head. Born in West Africa and sold into slavery in Virginia, he labored on a farm nearly his entire life. He never learned to read or write in English and received no education in America.
