a poem and wishes

Hello – I wanted to wish everyone on Substack a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Here’s a poem for you from me.

Essence

a winter’s night

nighttime magic, a picture frame of
an artful display of twinkling stars
the moon shining brightly upon
the falling snow that fills our sidewalks,
rooftops, and mountains
covered trees speckled in white

there’s the shuffling sound of boots
in the snow
faces wrapped in multi-colored scarves
to temper the cold, crisp air when
shoveling a path

it’s the magic of winter nights that
keeps us cuddled snugly in bed as the
night wanes reading a well-worn book or
a fresh new one

and babes cuddle up alongside you before
they go to bed listening to the soft sweet
sound of bedtime stories on a cold, winter’s
night with shades up, watching snowflakes fall
children hoping for no school the following
day and plenty of snow for building a
snowman

winter magic cuddles our hearts in a warming
embrace for its heart is made of universal
love for all the world’s children below

it belongs to the heavens as well as daylight
all that is sent from above
the night, the falling snow, and the air
bringing us a magical life and space to live in
and under its spell

to stand in one spot on the earth as it blows
its winds and delivers its snowy nights
brings us a universal freedom to stand and
spread our wings, putting magic in our veins
and love in our hearts for its essence of another 
night of glorious moonlit snow-filled beauty.
