in the black of the night
tinted in moonlight
sprayed with stars of light
and dust
my heart feels heavy yet
I place my trust
looking up a face appears
the moon smiling down on me
I hope it keeps smiling
so my heart will be free
if the moon could talk, what
would it say
I didn’t know but understood
that the moon looked down
with love from a caring face
sharing the cans and coulds
looking up at the stars made
me feel safe, rested, and
happy
though I wondered how long
that feeling would last
would it leave me soon, sad and sappy
finally I remembered how it did
last longer and longer each time I took
the opportunity to look its way and
feel its magic like reading a good
book
wishing upon a star
brought memories from afar
where family surrounded me
love filled the air, and I could
see that they were still very close
to me
while we grow, we don’t think
about the shortness of life
I imagine that’s because we’re
living like youngsters without so
much strife
we want to play and have it our way
but we give in for a hug and a treat
making life so especially sweet
when the moon and stars come again
I will ask why we can’t do what we
want all the time
but I already know the answer
and it doesn’t rhyme
but it jives with how life is
there’s obstacles always in our paths
to teach us to learn how to do
better and conquer the math
of living on small change
and in small spaces
knowing that life can bring
happiness and very sad
faces and not so great places
but their magic sinks in and
I feel like I heard their tunes
left with barely any tears
just the might of the stars
and the moon.
All best, Giulietta
