Well, I found research notes about Mae West, American stage and film actress, on a small slip of paper which was stuck inside some papers while cleaning out files. Here’s what I have.
She got off the train in LA and told the reporters assembled “I’m not a little girl from a little town making good in a big town, I’m a big girl from a big town making good in a little town.”
Her film career spanned nearly 50 years. She never played a mother. In 1934, she made more money than anyone in the US other than William Randolph Hearst.
She re-defined what Americans called sexy.
A few of her best movies were: I’m No Angel, 1933; Belle of the Nineties, 1934; Night After Night, 1932; and Every Day’s a Holiday, 1937.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY and died at 87 on November 22, 1980 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA.
Thanks for reading. All best, Giulietta

At a time when women in show business had hardly any control over their careers, Mae had complete control of hers. She wrote and directed her own Broadway shows and was either a credited or uncredited screenwriter on most of her films.
