appearing on a winter’s night
the cold so bitter it showed its might
winds pressed and whipped my face
in a fury of a blizzard’s pace
a sudden transformation fanned
that swirled into a white-dusted snowman
he came to cheer the kids at play
and for those who arrived that had lost their way
the fallen and the poor came too
for they could feel a golden warmth he brewed
they all made a circle holding each other
around the snowman, they became brothers
their friendship brought them newfound life
from the snowman they learned to have less strife
wishes he gave to each and everyone
for it was a time of love, happiness, and fun
his heart burned fierce glowing so bright
he came to bring them light over darkness of night
the snowman played, snowballs high in a pile
the children asked if he could stay a while
he granted all wishes because he could
the whole winter long he lived and stood
‘til one day as the snows began to disappear
the older children followed him north where
snow fell all year
he promised to return next wintry season
he told them to be good for love is the reason
that life comes and goes filling the world
with stars and golden memories of old
winter came again, the snowman reappeared
to all the children who were sweet and dear
the children named him the Snow King
of frosty winter days
he claimed the crown they made for him when
they began to play
the Snow King never really left their sides
he made them happiest in the cold winter tide
his presence left memories of all they had shared
that stayed with them even on days when not there
his leaving became a game they often made
of children guessing when he would arrive again
the Snow King returned for those young and old
because the children grew up, the story is told
centuries past yet the Snow King remained
to visit each winter to grant wishes the same
so this is how the story of the Snow King goes
remember to look for him when it snows.
